Swimming Australia is excited to announce the launch of Optus Swim Sydney Harbour, giving Aussies of all-ages and abilities the opportunity to take part in a unique swimming experience on January 20th 2018

With the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge as back drops, you won’t want to miss out on your chance to take in the sights while you swim, and soak up the atmosphere on the shore.

Optus Swim Sydney Harbour is the re-launch of the Great Australian Swim which took place at the same venue two years ago, with Swimming Australia joining forces with SME360 to bring the amazing event back.

Incorporating a range of distances suitable for all, plus a variety of activities, food and entertainment, Optus Swim Sydney Harbour is a great day out for families and friends.

Swimming Australia Chief Commercial Officer Chris Forbes said, “Optus and Swimming Australia have partnered together with a mutual long-term aspiration of growing the sport of swimming and this event is just the first ‘lap’.

“There is nothing more Australian than swimming and, along with both Optus and SME360, we’re excited to help bring this event back for 2018,” Forbes said.

CEO and Founder of SME 360, Martin Jolly is excited to be partnering with the Governing body of the sport of swimming and to have the support of one of Swimming Australia’s principle partners, Optus as the major sponsor of the event.

“We encourage everyone to come along and to participate in this iconic event in stunning Sydney Harbour.

“We had over 1100 competitors of all ages in 2016 and look forward to it being bigger and better in 2018.” Jolly said.

Swimming legends past and present will also be part of the action, following in the footsteps of past ambassador, Olympian Daniel Kowalski.

Thanks to the support of Optus, next January will not only see Sydney Harbour come to life, but also pools and oceans across the country as part of a bigger celebration, Australia Swims.

Australia Swims is a nine-day festival that aims to encourage every Australian to reconnect with their love of swimming and Swimming Australia President John Bertrand AO thinks everyone should get involved.

“Swimming is a unique sport with no age barriers, no gender barriers and no ability barriers – anyone can be a swimmer – it’s in our DNA.

“This is about inspiring all Australians to be the swimmer they want to be, and as a nation surrounded by water, the 2018 Australia Swims celebration will give everybody the chance to get involved, share and celebrate our love for water activities,” Bertrand said.
